Hualien Update: The never ending road.

Another task we were given was to clean up the road that lead to the daluan. We knew the road was long, so we tried to work as fast as possible. Perhaps it was due to the extremely hot weather, but I couldn't finish the road in one day of working. Emas had said that, the cleaning was finished in three hours in the past. After the first day, I honestly thought he was lying as we hadn't even finished a quarter of what we needed to do. We were sweeping the wide road of leaves and rocks and cutting weeds along the side of the road. Sweeping sounds easy, but with multiple mounds of buffalo poop drying in the sun, and dirt dried to the ground, it was hard to sweep. This went on to the second day and we continued to sweep. I knew that with the pace we were going at, we wouldn't be able to finish quickly, so I decided to get MOST of the debris out of the way, but I paid less attention to detail than the first day. We sweat so much and worked very hard, yet we still were unable to finish sweeping the long winding path to the daluan. Emas then showed us that we were trying to be too perfect and that he simply wanted a general sweep left and right. Now that looked much easier...I think we were trying to be too perfect in cleaning the path. We were unable to finish the task so we were relocated to another job, which was to start tearing off the roof of the daluan. SInce there were other working travellers as well, the three man team was able to finish the remaining portion of the path. Who would of thought that sweeping could take so long? It may have taken long to sweep the path, but it was great to work alongside a beautiful mountain view.
